The Stumble Upon VIPkid

Life is rough sometimes. I know you all "get" that. Sometimes you are handed lemons. You might consider making lemonade but really, you just want the satisfaction of stomping and squeezing..until they don't exist. Ever. Any more. But then reality sets in and you realize you can whine and bitch about it or you can make some damn lemonade. I realized, this month, that I had lemons that I needed to do something about. I teach part time at a local community college as well as manage a fairly successful home business. Usually, between the two, I manage to pay our mortgage, my car payment and many other bills that I won't bore you with. Both jobs offer me flexibility and fun. But, lately, I've been handed one of my lemons with the college by having reduced hours needed and another lemon came by a reduction in pay in my home business. The ups and downs of a home business. Oy vey. As a result, several things haven't been happening for a while with the home business

That Overwhelming Feeling

Image
You have  groceries to get, dinner to make, homework to supervise, kids to bathe, a business to run and not enough hours in the day ever, it seems like. No wonder why a lot of people feel overwhelmed. We do so many things on a daily basis that it is pretty easy to have a period where you just want to throw your hands up and say I give up. Here are my top 3 tips to helping with that feeling of overwhelment. 1) Stop. Drop. (ok maybe not really) Breathe. Take a step back and breathe. Maybe go read a book, watch a tv show, meditate, take a shower, read a book, something other than what is making you feel overwhelmed. You just need a breather sometimes. 2) Make a list of what you need to do. Then star your top priorities. It's ok if you don't get everything done, but this will help organize your thoughts as to what to do. I mean, I get overwhelmed just thinking about doing the dishes. Because I HATE doing the dishes. 3) Tackle one thing at a time. Maybe listen to music or

Catch YOUR vision

There are many people out there that scoff at the idea of vision boarding. Maybe scoff isn't the right word. Maybe laugh, scorn, look down on and ultimately think it's a bunch of hooey. It's not. It's actually helps you focus in on your wants and needs for your life. I mean, I KNOW I need focus. Squirrel.... So I figure I have nothing to lose by creating a pretty board with pictures and words. Let's break down exactly what vision board is.. Vision,  according to step-brother google,  is 1. the faculty or state of being able to see 2. an experience of seeing someone or something in a dream or trance, or as a supernatural apparition Let's just focus on the first one..I highlighted it, in case you couldn't tell. The faculty or state of being able to see...so seeing what your future holds would fall under that definition..right?? The thing with seeing your future is you need to have it IN YOUR FACE every stinking day. EVERY DAY. Not only do you need to

What To Do When You Feel Like Giving Up

You're doing something you enjoy, you love it, then things get rough and....you think it..you think....I should quit. *gasp*  Let's face it. We've all been there at one time in our life or another. From everything like your diet, to the gym, to your career or business, to even maybe, your marriage; when the tough gets going, you just want to crawl under the covers and opt out.  I'm going to give you 5 tips as to what to do when you these quitting blues come upon you to help you ride out the rough times. Tip 1: It's  NORMAL !! Say what? Yup, totally normal. Things in life are often rollercoasters. Many times we think we take one small step forward and end up three steps back. I mean how many of you have stepped on a scale and been like..screw this diet, I didn't lose any weight this week and then the next week BAM! you lose like three pounds. Just because you don't see progress doesn't mean that it isn't there. It just isn't evident at the ti

Why Parents Drink

Let's talk kids today. Specifically, my kids. I have 3 girls. They're 13, 10, and 5. They are the joy of my life, the apple of my eye, the pain in my ass... I don't know about you, but school is getting all technology fancy. They have an app called Class Dojo  that the teachers use that allow them to keep track of kids and assign them points. They can message the parents off that app too and the parents can message them. I knew about it when I taught, but that was closer to parents than I wanted to be. I applaud the teachers who take that risk.  But I digress...back to my kids. We've established that my kids teachers can instantly message me, right? The other day I got this message from my 5 year olds Kindergarten teacher.  She peed. Outside. On the playground. During recess.  This is a kid that is appalled (because she's under the impression that her bladder will not last till we get home) when I suggest we pull the car over and she can pee in the bushes

Combating yourself

When you first start out in anything, there are always some doubts in your head. Can I do this? Will I be good at it? Will I be successful? All of these things spin and spin in your head and can drive you bat shit crazy if you let it. So don't let it. When you let these self-doubts, this negative self talk stay in your brain, it will stop you from becoming who you were meant to be.  Walt Disney was told he LACKED creativity. Really? He lacked it...hard to believe, right? Arianna Huffington got DENIED by 36 publishers, now her name is  pretty well known..you know..Huffington Post. What if she let the first 1, 2, 3, 10 stop her from her goals.  Bill Gates first big project flopped. Like REALLY flopped. Had he let that stop him, then he would have never created the mega giant Microsoft.  I could go on and on about all these people who didn't let the doubts interfere with being bad ass, but I won't. Instead, I'm going to give you a few of my hell yeah tips to sil
